New Downtown Food Hall Will Land Literally Next Door to Grand Central Market

There’s yet another food hall coming to Los Angeles soon, but this one has a pretty particular location: it’s right next door to Grand Central Market. Perhaps Downtown’s most famous market, GCM is celebrating 100 years in business this year, but will have to face some stiff (and close) competition in the near future.

While no tenants have been confirmed yet for the property at 327 Broadway, with its colorful Home of the Original Shrimp Place Since 1927 signage, details have begun to emerge. RKF, who is helping to develop the project, actually showed off the above rendering of the place last fall, and Neilson Hammer is helping to design the entire thing. On their website, the design team calls the property “an upscale food court with communal dining and a modern aesthetic.”

Plans for the address show room for three stalls on the ground floor, each at just over 2,000 square feet. There’s also a sizable patio in the back, and a full lower level basement that could be converted as well. Tenants likely won’t be able to get up and running in the space until the first quarter of 2018, however.

The future food hall

That whole block of Broadway has been massively revitalized just in the past year, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Grand Central Market starting several years ago. Now places like Bernadette’s and Bar Clacson (plus Birds and Bees not far away) are keeping people around later and later, which can only bode well for everyone.
